Serving our neighbors is an important part of our mission at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. We seek to support our community through hands-on service, partnerships with local organizations, and opportunities for members to share God’s love in practical ways.
Ongoing Ministries
Food Pantry Support
Each month, our congregation collects a designated food item for the Washington County Food Pantry. Donations can be placed in the collection area in the church foyer. This ongoing effort helps provide consistent support for individuals and families in need throughout the year.
Jesse Tree (Christmas Giving Program)
Our church participates in the community-wide Jesse Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts for families in need.
During the holiday season:
- Gift tags are available at community locations, including our church, St. John the Baptist Catholic church, and local businesses.
- Each tag represents a specific gift request.
- Gifts should be purchased and returned unwrapped to the designated collection locations.
Participants may also purchase gifts through the program’s online Amazon or Walmart wish lists when available.
Community Blood Drives
Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church hosts community blood drives in our fellowship hall several times each year, typically on Sunday mornings. These drives provide a convenient opportunity for community members to donate blood and help meet critical healthcare needs.
Watch our Facebook page or community announcements for upcoming dates and registration information.
Scholarships for College Students
Each year, Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church offers scholarships to support college students connected to our congregation and community.
Our annual Soup Supper, held each fall, serves as the primary fundraiser for this scholarship program.
Supporting Vacation Bible School
To help fund our Vacation Bible School program, volunteers from our congregation provide and serve desserts at St. John the Baptist Catholic parish’s annual Fish Fry. Community organizations take turns supplying and serving desserts, and our participation helps support VBS materials and activities for local children.
Previous Outreach Partnerships
Over the years, members of our congregation have also served the community through additional volunteer efforts, including:
- Volunteer work with the Washington County Recycling Association
- Annual service days supporting maintenance and cleanup at Camp Calvin Crest
While these activities are not currently scheduled on a regular basis, they reflect our ongoing commitment to caring for our community and environment.
